Savusauna - Smokesauna

Jon and I were really keen to try out a savusauna as we had heard they are really good. We hired a savusauna for the afternoon, so this meant that the owner spent 4-5 hours warming the sauna up.  There is a huge pile of rocks which need to be heated by a fire underneath them.  The smoke from the fire has no chimney to travel through so it goes out the window of the sauna for hours that's why all the walls, door ways and open windows are black.  Once the rocks are heated the charcoal is all removed so there is no more smoke left in the sauna, then it is ready to use as normal. The experience was great, we all walked out with black on our arms, legs and backs.  We then jumped into the noticeably brown river named Vääräjoki which my dad swam in it as a boy.
